Excellent manual Espresso Maker.
I used to have an electric high end espresso maker but once it failed I didn’t replace it since I was the only one using it. When I came across this espresso maker I thought I would give it a try as opposed to buying a larger machine. The espresso maker comes packaged very nicely in a cardboard box, you slide out the “tray” and find the espresso maker nicely stored inside. The contents of the box was the assembled espresso maker, a bonus glass cup, instructions in many languages and a small brush to clean the filter with. It also comes with spare O rings as well as a measuring cup.The espresso maker is quite heavy, partly due to the heavy shot glass and partly due to the press itself. It’s parts are made of black plastic, diamond textured rubber on the outside and stainless. The tank holds 2.7 ounces of water or liquids but does say the tank capacity is 3.38 ounces. The glass shot glass holds a total of 4 ounces giving you enough room for your fresh espresso and frothed milk if you so desire. The Instructions are lacking a bit for first time use, it has 3 pages in any given language – Assembly Diagram, Basic Instructions and Functions and Frothing Milk and Cappuccino. There is very little dialog so you do mostly rely on the images themselves, particularly for frothing milk. When you take the espresso maker out of the box you will find there is a clear sticker on the pump handle who’s grammar is a bit crude. It tells you to immerse the pump into water prior to use to unlock it. To to unlock the press or pump handle you press on it lightly and rotate it slowly clockwise until the pump handle lifts out out of the press (after immersing it in water according to the label). The stem of the pump is shaped like a cross and so you must align this in the lid which allows the pump to lift up (you can’t actually see this until the pump is lifted out of the espresso maker). To close it press the pump down after emptying the espresso maker and cleaning it, and then turn the pump either clockwise or counter clockwise until it locks into place. To make your own espresso you add your favorite coffee grounds, tamp those into the metal filter cup, fill the tank up with hot water (or cold) and assemble then begin pumping. It takes on average about 30 or so pumps depending on amount of coffee, as pressure builds in the tank it does become a bit harder to pump as pressure builds and it takes more than half of the pumps before espresso begins to spray into your cup, but it is worth it.Taste of espresso is going to rely solely on the grounds you use, darker blends will result in a darker espresso, lighter blends or beans will result in a lighter espresso. The machine also easily froths milk by taking the lid or pump off of the water tank and putting it directly into your scaled milk and pumping until desired froth is achieved.Clean up is fairly easy, just disassemble the espresso maker and rinse with hot water, dry and put away.Overall I love it! Yes it takes a bit of pumping to get it going, but it is very easy to set up and use as well as quite efficient, especially since it’s not even electric. It’s very portable so it’s easy to take on trips or even camping and the box it comes in makes for great storage.
Great little portable espresso maker!
We usually only make French pressed coffee here at home as I do not like the taste of our machine coffee. I got this, because I thought it would be a really great addition to our little road trips and summer camping trips. First of all, we used the same exact beans we had on hand that we use for the French press. I was really surprised that when we were done making our first cup, the taste beats the taste of the same coffee in the French press. I don’t know all the science of coffee, but it tastes so much better made this way! We also made cappuccino using the top as the frother. Now this was something completely new to me so I had to look it up and learned I had to heat the milk to get a good froth. But it worked!I wasn’t planning on using it as an every day thing, as i just wanted to try it out, but I’m totally hooked simply because I love the way it tastes. I’ve had it every day since I got it (Got it Friday, and today is Sunday). Not really practical to use as an every day thing, but I really am gonna be glad I have it for our road trips!OH, and I should mention, the quality totally exceeds my expectations! It’s nice and sturdy made of quality materials.
Exactly what we needed!
This thing is awesome!Bought this to replace an OLD Starbucks Verismo machine that we had relegated to the camper. It was starting to die because it wasn’t used much. Pump would work half the time. Plus, generator required. Bought this to take with us on our recent camping trip, and it was a huge success, even with my wife! What it puts out is sensational. It’s as good as what we get out of our really nice Jura machine at home, but definitely takes more time. We grind the coffee in a good burr grinder, which is the ONLY way you should grind for espresso since chopper grinders don’t grind consistently. We brought along our kettle, heated water, poured it in, and BAM! Awesome espresso.About the only thing I can say negative about this is the cleanup. There’s just no easy way I’ve found to get the grounds out of the cup after brewing. No matter what I did, I’d end up with grinds ALL OVER my hands. Didn’t want to dump the majority in our RV gray tank, so I got most out in the trash, then slightly filled the sink with water and agitated the cup in the water. Once I did that, the brew cup would come clean and I could move on. I wonder if any other owners have any suggestions on how to make this step easier. Almost wish I could just buy another one of those cups in order to prep a double-shot latte THEN clean up. Still… doesn’t deserve a lower star.Only other thing I can say is that the reason I chose this over other handheld espresso makers, is that you pump towards the counter. There’s no holding the machine in mid-air while trying to aim for a mug.
Customer Service Unresponsive – Resolved
Updated 5/3/23 – My issue with the broken item was resolved when the customer service responded after a few weeks. They provided the replacement broken piece and a separate gift, which was thoughtful.Purchased this in Dec 2022 for my husband. He loved it! Used it every weekend until a piece broke in February 2023, only 2 months after he started using it. I’ve emailed the customer service as instructed on their website and inquired about the warranty, but have never heard back. We love it, it worked great, but should last longer than 2 months and should be able to reach someone for the warranty. 5 stars becomes 1 star.
I LOVE MY STARESSO!
I was planning to buy a Nespresso machine for close to $299 when I came across the Staresso on Amazon. I liked the idea that Staresso is small and won’t take up space on my counter. It fits perfectly in the center of the canisters and French press of my coffee station. I also like that I can use Nespresso pods but also have the option to use Loose Espresso. So far I have been using Nespresso pods and the espresso comes out great. There is always a thick layer of crema on top!! I also us a Nespresso machine at work and I can tell you the Staresso makes just as good of a cup of coffee. It is also very fast to set up and clean up. I was expecting it to possibly be a hassle- but it is really very quick. I am so glad I did not waste my money or my counter space on the Nespresso machine- Very happy with staresso!!
